The Federal High Court in Lagos has granted former First lady, Patience Jonathan, unrestrained access to her recently unfrozen $5.9 million. The court had on April 6th unfrozen the money which was earlier seized by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, who suspected that the funds found in a Skye bank account were proceeds from financial crimes. The EFCC had applied for a stay of execution onthe court order unfreezing her account. Howeverat the court hearing today, counsel to EFCC, Rotimi Oyedepo, informed the court that the agency was withdrawing its application for stay of execution on the order and is also not going to appeal the order. The leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) Nnamdi Kanu, has been whisked away by operatives of Department of State Services (DSS) and the Nigerian Prisons Service after he was granted bail by a Federal High Court in Abuja. Vanguard reports that the accused, who was arraigned on a charge of attempting to commit suicide, pleaded not guilty. But the prosecutor, Sgt. Kehinde Omisakin insisted that the accused committed the offenceon March 24 at about 10.00 a.m. on the Third Mainland Bridge, Lagos.He said the businesswoman was, however, prevented by security operatives from committing suicide. The accused had been having sleepless nights since she was allegedly duped of N18.7 million by a Bureau-de-Change operator sometime in 2015.The offence contravened Section 233 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015. The accused may, on conviction, be sentenced to a life imprisonment according to the provisions of the section. The Chief Magistrate, Mr A.T. Elias admitted the accused to a bail of N500,000 with two responsible sureties in like sum. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has traced N2 billion to the United Bank for Africa (UBA) account of Kantigi Liman, a 2015 governorship aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Niger state. The agency said EFCC may declare Liman wanted.The discovery brings to N6 billion, the funds traced to accounts held by the politician and companies linked to him.Two weeks ago, the commission traced N4 billion to two accounts in GTBank, both linked toLiman. The Rivers state government has declared wanted a known cultist in Eleme Local government area popularly called ‘Supremo. ‘Supremo’ was declared wanted after failing to meet the ultimatum given to him by the state Amnesty Committee to drop his arms and embrace amnesty.
