Three coronavirus patients have been discharged by the Ogun State government from one of its isolation centres between Wednesday and Thursday. This was disclosed by the State Commissioner for Health, Dr Tomi Coker, on Thursday during a press conference on the update on COVID-19 in the state. Coker said the development had brought the total number of patients discharged to six patients with three active cases being cared for by health workers in one of the isolation centres. She explained that 210 persons, who had contacts with the positive cases, were identified, out of which 110 observed 14 days quarantine period. Coker said only two of the people quarantined tested positive while the remaining 108 tested negatives on completion of the quarantine period. Acting President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo,has assented to seven bills passed by the National Assembly. The bills are: Oath (Amendment) Act 2017, Defence Space Administration Act, Veterinary Surgeons (Amendment Act). This was confirmed by the Senior Special Assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on National Assembly Matters, Senator Ita Enang. Other bills signed by Osinbajo are: National Film and Video Censors Boad, Pension Rights of Judges, Nigerian Institute of Social Science (Establishment ACT and Mortgage Institutions Amendment Act. Enang explained that the Acts, other than the Defence Space Administration Act and Institute of Soil science were mainly Amendments to the Principal Act. The Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Dr. Ibe Kachikwu, has stated that crude oil production had risen to two million barrels per day. With this, Nigeria now produces additional 200,000 barrels per day, up from the 1.8 million bpd recorded in recent times. Kachikwu made the disclosure when he met with the House of Representatives Committee on Petroleum Resources (Upstream) to defend the 2017 budget estimates of the Ministry of Petroleum Resources. The committee is chaired by a member from Delta State, Victor Nwokolo. Kachikwu, who also spoke on the Forcados Oil Terminal, informed lawmakers that repair works on the facility were nearing completion. “In some weeks, we will be able to progress to 2.2 million bpd, which is the target of the (2017) budget,” he added.
